510-Thread Compatibility and Hardware FAQ | LiT Vape Pens
If you are new to cannabis vaping or considering switching to a refill cartridge setup, understanding the hardware involved makes the whole process much simpler. This page answers every common question about 510-thread compatibility, batteries, cartridges, and how to get started.
What Is a 510-Thread Connection?
The 510-thread is a standardized screw connection used in the vast majority of vape pen batteries and cartridges on the market. The name comes from the threading specification: 10 threads at 0.5mm pitch. This standard was established in the early days of the vaping industry and became the dominant connection type because it allows cartridges and batteries from different brands to work together.
When a brand says their cartridge is 510-thread compatible, it means you can attach it to virtually any 510-thread battery , including batteries from other brands, generic batteries purchased elsewhere, and the LiT pen battery included in our starter kits.

Are LiT Cartridges Compatible with My Battery?
If your battery uses a 510-thread connection , which the overwhelming majority of vape pen batteries do , then yes, LiT cartridges are compatible. Screw the cartridge clockwise onto the battery connection until snug. Do not overtighten. That is all the setup required.
The one exception: if you own a proprietary pod system like a JUUL device or certain PAX products, those use their own non-510 connections. LiT also carries THC JUUL pods for JUUL device owners specifically.
What Is the LiT Pen Battery?
The LiT pen battery is a 350mAh variable voltage 510-thread battery included in all LiT reusable vape pen kits. It is also available separately as a replacement or spare at $10 for the standard buttonless version and $13 for the Flower Power variable voltage version.
Key specs:
- 350mAh capacity , provides full-day battery life for most users
- Draw-activated on the standard version , just inhale, no button needed
- Variable voltage on the Flower Power version , adjust output for your preferred draw
- Standard 510-thread connection , compatible with all LiT cartridges and most third-party carts
- USB charging , charges in 30 to 45 minutes
- Lead-free hardware , same clean standard applied to every component

What Is the Difference Between a Cartridge, a Kit, and a Disposable?
This is the most common question from first-time buyers. Here is the straightforward breakdown:
Refill Cartridge: A pre-filled oil tank with a 510-thread connection at the bottom. You screw it onto any compatible battery and use it. When the oil runs out you order another cartridge. The most cost-effective ongoing format. LiT cartridges start at $29 for 500mg and $39 for 1000mg across 30+ strains.
Reusable Starter Kit: Includes a LiT pen battery, a refill cartridge in your chosen strain, and a USB charger , everything you need in one order. No separate purchases required. The right starting point for anyone who does not already own a battery. Available from $39 for the 500mg kit and $55 for the 1000mg kit across all strains.
Disposable Vape Pen: A self-contained all-in-one unit that comes pre-filled with 500mg of cannabis oil and pre-charged. No battery, no charger, no setup. Just inhale from the mouthpiece to activate. When empty, dispose of the unit. The simplest possible entry point into cannabis vaping. LiT disposable pens start at $39 for THC and $49 for CBD.
You can see a detailed comparison of all three on our Disposable vs Cartridge vs Kit page.
How Do I Use a 510-Thread Vape Pen?
If you are using a LiT reusable kit or a refill cartridge with your own battery:
- Screw the cartridge clockwise onto the battery connection until it sits snug. Do not overtighten.
- Inhale gently from the mouthpiece. The LiT pen is draw-activated , no buttons.
- Start with a 2 to 3 second draw for your first session with any new strain.
- Wait 5 minutes before your next draw to let the effects register fully.
- Store upright when not in use to prevent the oil from settling unevenly.
How Long Does a Cartridge Last?
A 500mg cartridge delivers approximately 100 to 200 puffs depending on draw length. For most regular users this is one to two weeks of use. A 1000mg cartridge doubles those numbers and offers significantly better value per milligram at just $10 more.
Battery life is separate , a fully charged LiT pen battery lasts most users a full day of regular use. A USB charge takes 30 to 45 minutes.
Why Is the Oil in My Cartridge Thick?
Pure CO2-extracted cannabis oil is naturally viscous. This is actually a good sign , it means the oil has not been thinned with MCT oil, propylene glycol, or other additives. LiT uses botanical terpenes to achieve the right consistency for clean vaporization without introducing any compounds that do not belong in a cannabis product.
If your cartridge ever seems too thick to draw in cold weather, hold it in your hand for a minute before using it. The warmth from your hand is usually enough to restore normal flow. You can read more about why we refuse to use thinning agents on our Why No Fillers Matters page.
What Is the Lead-Free Hardware Standard?
The metal components of a vape cartridge , particularly the connection point and the heating element , can contain trace amounts of lead in low-quality hardware. Lead is a neurotoxin with no safe level of exposure. LiT sources hardware tested and verified lead-free on every production batch. This is not standard practice in the grey market cannabis space. We do it because the hardware is part of what you are inhaling from, and clean oil in contaminated hardware is still a problem.
